25 Years as the Official Partner of the Sun: BELECTRIC’s Journey and Outlook
The transition to a sustainable energy system is accelerating across Europe, driven by growing demand for renewable generation, greater grid flexibility and increasing pressure to decarbonise. Over the past decades, solar energy has evolved from a niche technology into one of the central pillars of this transition. Companies that invested early in large-scale photovoltaic solutions are now shaping the energy infrastructure of the future – among them BELECTRIC, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2026.
In the early 2000s, solar energy was widely considered expensive and inefficient. In 2001, BELECTRIC was founded with the ambition to transform what was then one of the most costly renewable energy sources into a competitive solution. Beck Energy GmbH took on this challenge together with S&F Umwelttechnik GmbH and Blitzstrom GmbH, laying the foundation for the company’s early development. In 2011, the three companies joined forces under a unified structure, forming BELECTRIC as it is known today. What began as a forward-looking initiative in a still emerging market has since developed into one of Europe’s leading providers in the development, construction and operation of solar power plants and battery storage systems.
Over the course of its history, the company has consistently contributed to the industrialisation of solar energy. A key milestone was reached in 2012, when BELECTRIC became the first company worldwide to surpass one gigawatt of installed solar capacity – a defining moment for the photovoltaic industry. Since then, installed capacity has grown to approximately six gigawatts worldwide, with more than 530 constructed photovoltaic systems supplying clean electricity to millions of households. Building on this scale and experience, BELECTRIC has developed into an international company with more than 600 employees across nine European countries, delivering projects in markets such as Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Its activities cover the full lifecycle of solar projects, from development and engineering to construction, operation and maintenance, enabling long-term optimisation of plant performance while ensuring reliability and efficiency throughout the operational phase.
Energy Infrastructure Beyond Generation
As the energy system becomes more complex, the role of solar providers is expanding beyond power generation. BELECTRIC increasingly focuses on combining photovoltaic plants with battery storage systems to enhance grid stability and ensure the availability of renewable energy when it is needed. Hybrid solutions and standalone storage systems are becoming key components of future energy systems, supporting both flexibility and security of supply.
In parallel, the company continues to pursue a holistic, 360 degree approach to project delivery. From initial project planning and permitting to long-term operations and maintenance, BELECTRIC supports solar assets across their entire lifecycle. This integrated model allows for continuous optimisation, the integration of new technologies and the alignment of energy generation with evolving market requirements.
A New Chapter within the Elevion Group
A significant milestone in BELECTRIC’s recent development was its integration into the Elevion Group in 2021. As part of one of Europe’s leading providers of end to end solutions for decarbonisation and energy efficiency, BELECTRIC has further strengthened its position across the value chain. The partnership enables closer alignment between renewable energy generation and broader energy solutions, supporting the development of integrated and scalable infrastructure projects.
Reflecting on the company’s journey, Dr. Thorsten Blanke, CEO of BELECTRIC, emphasised the role of the workforce in shaping its success: “This anniversary is above all thanks to our employees, whose passion, expertise and commitment have written the success story of BELECTRIC.”
Looking Ahead
The 25th anniversary marks not only a retrospective of achievements but also a starting point for future development. As Europe continues to expand renewable energy capacities, large-scale solar parks and integrated storage solutions will play a central role in ensuring stable and sustainable energy systems.
With its long-standing experience, international presence and integrated project approach, BELECTRIC is well positioned to contribute to the next phase of the energy transition. The company’s focus remains on combining innovation, operational excellence and scalable solutions to support a reliable, climate friendly energy future.
